The Public Works Director leads and manages all functions of the Public Works Department, which operates under a traditional structure. This role involves overseeing departmental operations for the streets/parks, water, and wastewater divisions, supported by a team of 22 full-time employees. The director is also responsible for managing the department’s annual budget of approximately $20 million, covering personnel, operations, and capital projects.
In addition to these formal divisions, the Public Works Department provides expertise and oversight for the construction, maintenance, and operations of buildings, facilities, and major infrastructure. The position includes responsibilities in fleet management, project management, public relations, safety/risk management, emergency management, working with city committees, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position requires a dynamic leader with a comprehensive understanding of public works operations and a strong ability to effectively manage both people and resources.
Salary and Benefits Information: $100,802 – $122,526 plus excellent benefits package

Position Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business administration, or public administration from a four-year college is ideal. However, we seek candidates with the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel in this role. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply, regardless of their educational background.
Preferred candidates will have progressively responsible experience in public works or related fields, with 10+ years of demonstrated management or high-level administrative expertise.
Previous experience with the oversight, education, management, and certifications necessary to run a public works department.
The Public Works Director must become and remain a resident of Clatsop County or live within 30 minutes of Seaside city limits.
