The City of Beaverton is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to manage the City’s Transportation Capital Projects Program. This role involves overseeing engineering projects from conception to completion, providing expert guidance on transportation infrastructure, and ensuring projects align with the City’s goals and the Transportation System Plan (TSP).
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of civil and transportation engineering, strategic planning, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities
Develop, review, approve, and carry out transportation work plans, services, policies, procedures, and reports. Set performance goals, measure results, and make improvements as needed in line with the Transportation System Plan (TSP).
Approve designs and manage consultants to complete engineering projects successfully.
Mentor and train staff to meet city goals. Schedule, assign, and review work. Help with hiring decisions and provide training and performance feedback. Assist with performance evaluations and discussions.
Advise the Public Works Director, City Manager, Mayor, City Council, and city boards and commissions on transportation engineering issues. Analyze intergovernmental agreements, ordinances, and other documents for policy impact, and provide written reports. Present technical reports to City Council, Boards, and Commissions.
Participate in the Engineering Division’s senior management team.
Represent the city on intergovernmental agency committees.
Prepare, recommend, and monitor the city budget and capital improvement plan for transportation projects. Explain any budget differences and authorize payments to contractors and consultants.
Review engineering plans and project proposals, ensuring they follow city codes, engineering standards, and regulations including floodplain ordinances and Clean Water Services standards.
Answer technical questions from residents, developers, engineers, or staff.
Lead by example in providing excellent customer service, encouraging professional and respectful behavior, and finding creative solutions to problems that improve the customer experience.
Act with respect and integrity, promote, and support diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering; and
Ten years of experience in civil engineering, including
Three years of experience in transportation engineering and
Two years of project management experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
Registration as a civil engineer (PE) in the State of Oregon, or the ability to attain licensure within one year for applicants who are licensed in other states.
Ability to pass reference checks and education verification and satisfy the requirements of a background check.

Compensation
Salary range: $8,694.08 – $11,649.68 monthly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
