Salary Information: $25.67 – $35.12, 11 paid Holidays per year, 4 Personal Holidays, Paid Sick Leave, plus medical, vision and dental benefits package to include fully paid Public Employment Retirement System (PERS).
Description: Full-time position in the Public Works Department operating a variety of specialized light and heavy construction equipment and performing skilled and semi-skilled physically demanding work, in the performance of maintaining the county road system and other Public Works functions. Responsibilities will also include assisting with regular and preventative maintenance work on relevant equipment, and related work as required. Applicants must be available to work varying schedules, including overtime, weekends or holidays, and during inclement weather, natural events, emergencies, or for special projects. High School graduation or GED required and must maintain a clean driving record. Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, a Certification in Traffic Control, and First Aid in accordance with Department policy.
Qualifications/Requirements: Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Perform a variety of physically demanding and skilled manual tasks in road construction and maintenance including patching and repairing roadways.
• Assists in preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Drive and operate a variety of specialized heavy construction vehicles and equipment on roads.
• Assists in training personnel in the specialized equipment including the safe and proper procedures and policies.
Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of state laws pertaining to the operation of heavy equipment vehicles.
• Ability to drive and operate equipment skillfully and safely and detect the need for mechanical repairs.
• Ability to solve complex problems and deal with multiple variables.
• Ability to calculate quantities such as volume, units of measure, proportions, areas, and fractions.
• Ability to understand, follow and execute oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform inspections, document findings in a professional manner, and speak effectively in public
• Ability to work effectively and be attentive to surroundings at all times.
• Ability to work overtime during the week, weekend and holidays.
• Ability to work varied schedules during inclement weather periods.
• Availability for call back at night, early mornings, weekends and holidays for emergency work.
