APWA Data-Driven Fleet Staffing: Using MRU and VEU to Inform Leadership Decision Image

This live virtual program equips fleet management professionals with a practical, results-oriented framework for leveraging maintenance repair units (MRUs) and vehicle equivalent units (VEUs) in data-driven staffing decisions. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how these metrics differ, how to accurately calculate and apply them to evaluate fleet workload, and how to translate insights into well-supported staffing strategies.

Designed with real-world application in mind, the program builds both technical capability and professional confidence, enabling participants to effectively analyze, justify, and communicate staffing needs to organizational leadership using MRU and VEU data.

Following the session, participants are invited to continue the conversation in a virtual lounge, where they can collaborate with peers and apply concepts through hands-on practice using a mock fleet department.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define and distinguish between MRUs and VEUs.
  2. Apply MRU and VEU calculations to assess fleet workload and determine appropriate staffing levels.
  3. Develop and present a data-backed staffing recommendation using MRU and VEU metrics, including clear justification and key talking points for organizational leadership.
