Hood River County is seeking a Public Works Director to administer, plan and direct the activities and staff of the Public Works Department.
This position reports to the County Administrator and is a key member of the County’s Management Team. This role is responsible for a public works budget of $11,324,304 across all public works funds and currently oversees the staff and operations of Hood River County Public Works team. The County is seeking a leader with strengths in long term financial planning and complex project management and delivery due to the need to update county facilities, programs and practices. Example projects include Courthouse replacement program development and financing, updating equipment replacement and reserve policies/program; updating roadway design and construction standards, bridge replacement planning and financing, and asset management and operations.
Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, construction management, engineering or related field. They would have 8 years of progressively responsible public works experience including supervisory experience. During the work experience, the qualified applicant will have gained knowledge of principles, practices of public works department functions to include, budget administration, engineering design and permit review, and compliance with federal, state and local requirements. A solid background in personnel management and ability to effectively present information and professionally respond to questions from elected officials, groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public both orally and in writing are required.

Salary depending on experience: $92,649/year – 148,334/year
